Kapurna (Glaffyra) – Kato Kerasia

kapourna
Duration: 1.30΄
Marking: red signs
Maximum altitude: 400 m.

A route suitable for winter months, as it passes through low vegetation with mainly holly trees that do not offer shade, walking on a path and a rural road. There is access by bus from the bus station at the beginning and end of the road. It can also be combined with the Kapurna-Kanalia route.

The beginning is on the asphalt road a few meters after the last houses of Kapourna, going towards Kerasia. We follow a rural road that goes uphill to the left and at the beginning it is cemented. Above, we can see sections of cobbled streets in the road. After a while we reach a junction with another rural road on the left. Ahead of us the path continues downhill towards Kanalia. We proceed right on the rural road that climbs smoothly in a northeastern direction.

Above, where the road turns right, we leave to the left following the red signs and follow a wide path that climbs northwards. After a while we walk on flat ground and a small ravine starts to form in front of us. Our course becomes northeast and slightly downhill, with the ravine on our left, while we can see Lake Karla and the Kanalia. On our right we have the hill Metochi (475 m.).

We reach a clearing and continue right to the east, coming out in a larger clearing which we cross in an easterly direction following the red signs. After a little more time on flat ground on the same course (be careful of the snaking paths going in different directions), the path starts to descend in a northeastern direction. Across the road we will see Kato Kerasia.

Descending, we ignore crossroads with paths that leave to the left (north) and lead to clearings that we can see further ahead and to the left. Our course continues always northeast and finally we come out on a farm. We follow a dirt road to the right through the farm that descends, turns left downhill to another uncultivated farm with trees and after passing a small stream below, it crosses diagonally on the right with another rural road. After a while we come out on the asphalt road, which makes a hairpin bend to the right and we see Kato Kerasia in front of us. After the bend, next to a PPC pole, we find a narrow path that descends between pine trees and comes out on an asphalt road, next to the bed of the Kerasias stream. Following it, we soon reach the church of the village.
